A large-scale police operation is in progress after a man was shot multiple times on Doncaster Road in Wakefield on Tuesday night.

According to West Yorkshire Police, officers and emergency medics responded swiftly to reports of gunfire. The victim received treatment at the scene before being airlifted to a major trauma centre. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Witnesses described a significant police presence, with Doncaster Road cordoned off near Howarth Timber. Traffic is being redirected through nearby streets, including the route past the cemetery into Agbrigg.

A police helicopter was spotted circling above Ossett as part of the search for the suspect. Locals reported a tense atmosphere, with the area under heavy police guard.

No arrests have been confirmed, and the investigation remains active.
